  • On August 14, 2023 I had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life...to let go of my beloved boxer, Lucy. She was suffering with a breathing ailment and although I wanted to keep her with me, I loved her enough to let her go. I had to do what was best for her and not for me.

I had Lucy for almost 11 years. She was the most wonderful dog anyone could have ever had. She had the kindest eyes and was as sweet as anything to everyone who met her.

Dr. Means and her staff at Fayette Vet had taken care of Lucy for her entire life. So when Lucy was having trouble breathing I knew exactly who to call. When I called, I was told to bring Lucy right in.

After an examination, giving Lucy oxygen and trying treatments that had worked before; I was told that nothing was working. It was then that I made my decision. You want them to live forever...but that's not realistic. You have to love them enough to let them go when it's time.

The staff brought in a big blanket. Dr. Means gave Lucy an injection to calm her down. Lucy and I laid on that blanket for a long time just being together. Finally, Dr. Means came in and gave Lucy her final injection to euthanize her. It was a peaceful passing for Lucy. And what more could I ask for such a wonderful companion.

We were BOTH treated with such tenderness, compassion, respect and dignity. We were given privacy. I was allowed to stay as long as I wanted. I was given a clipping of Lucy's fur and her paw print with her name as well as her date of passing. I also had the choice of cremation or I could take Lucy home for burial. I chose cremation.

Lucy's cremation was performed onsite at Fayette Veterinary Hospital by Means Meadows Pet Cremation Services and was was handled with the utmost care. Once again that same tenderness, compassion, respect and dignity was shown. Fayette Vet is a caring facility.  They not only see to your pet's needs while they are living but also as they cross the Rainbow Bridge.

  • I am writing to express my deepest gratitude and admiration for the unwavering care and compassion that the staff provided to our family and beloved dog, Ruby, throughout her entire life and, most recently, during the final chapter of her journey. Choosing a cremation service for our cherished pet is an incredibly personal decision. As we navigated the difficult decision of saying goodbye to Ruby, the compassion and empathy demonstrated by the staff at Fayette Veterinary Hospital were nothing short of extraordinary. The process of arranging cremation services, at an onsite location, was handled with the same level of care and attention that we have come to expect over the years. The staff's sensitivity and genuine concern made an incredibly challenging experience more manageable. It was evident that every detail was attended to, ensuring that Ruby's farewell was dignified and respectful. Ruby’s remains were returned to us with a heartfelt note and paw print. She now rests peacefully near our bed, her favorite place to sleep.
